Both lifts at Newport station out until Tuesday — subway stays open

Network Rail is waiting on a part. The subway stays open. Allow extra time if you cannot use the stairs.

Newport station approach and High Street

Both platform lifts at Newport station failed on Thursday evening. Network Rail says a control-board part is due Monday; they will not reopen the cars until they have tested both. The subway and stairs are open. Staff can walk you round via the High Street entrance if you need a level route to platform 1.

If you are going to County on Saturday, the 12-minute walk from the front of the station to Rodney Parade does not use the lifts. The issue is arriving by train if you cannot do stairs. TfW is putting a member of staff at the barrier from 07:00 Friday.

Hours confirmed with Network Rail Wales, 28 August 2026.
