Port Talbot: electric furnace still aiming for October, 1,200 roles on the site plan

Tata Steel told the transition board on Monday that the first electric-arc furnace at Port Talbot is still on the October commissioning gate, with first coil in early 2027. About 1,200 roles remain on the site plan published in 2024. Community Union said 180 coke-oven posts have no written end date and asked for one before the Senedd term starts.

Welsh Government’s grant claims are quarterly; the last claim was signed off in July. This is not a new rescue. It is whether the timetable printed last year is still the timetable.
