20mph in Gwent: where the cameras are, and what the Senedd review can change

The 20mph default is still the law. The autumn Senedd vote is whether the review reports before half-term — not a repeal. GoSafe’s public map for Gwent lists average-speed and fixed cameras on stretches of the A4042 through Cwmbran, the A48 through Chepstow, and Newport’s A467 approaches. Fines are the UK penalty-notice rate; a speed-awareness course is offered on a first eligible hit. That is the scheme. It is not a rumour.

Drivers hate it on the A-road that used to be 30. Pedestrians on those high streets asked for it. Both things can be in the same story. The review is the one that decides if 30 returns on specified A-roads. We will file the list of roads when the government publishes it — not a vibe.
