Asylum support in Wales: just under 2,800 people, Home Office June figures

The Home Office’s June 2026 asylum-support release puts just under 2,800 people in Wales: most in dispersal housing, a minority in contingency hotels. Newport and Wrexham are the two authorities named in local reporting for two years. The Home Office does not publish a live hotel-by-hotel list. A screenshot without a release date is not a figure.

The Senedd does not run borders. Councils do not choose the buildings. What they do run: school places, GP lists, the housing list next to the hotel. Those are the local facts. The south-coast intake is a different statistical series — England — and should not be pasted onto a Welsh authority.
